Junior Stakeholder Liaison Officer

The purpose of this role is to assist the compliance and licensing department through effective stakeholder engagement

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:  

  •  Develop and maintain working relationships with various departments and regulators;

  • Manage and assist with following up on enviro-legal processes required for new and existing projects; 

  • Working closely with the case officers to bridge the gap between the applicant and the regulator, to improve efficiency during the licensing process;

  • Assist the compliance department with all enviro-legal licenses for the operations; 

  • Managing perception of the company to regulators and putting a face to an application;

  • Manage and follow-up closely on all enviro-legal licensing applications for mining activities;

  • Facilitate meetings between the applicant and regulators regarding all licensing approvals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in BCom, LLB, or Environmental Management related fields; 

  • Must be computer literate, Microsoft Office is essential;

  • Must have 1 to 3 years’ experience in the mining industry; 

  • Working knowledge and understanding of all environmental related legislation;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Strong people skills;

  • Must be willing to travel at short notice to various places;

  • Multi-lingual;

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities;

  • Previous experience working with government departments and stakeholders is beneficial

  • Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment; 

  • Ability to convey information and ensure that they understand what is required to finalise the licensing process; 

  • Innovating ways to deal with environmental related work problems;  

  • Organizing and guiding the environmental requirements as per licenses and   operational requirements; 

  • Must be able to work under pressure;

  • Working with key stakeholders during the licensing process;

  • Must hold a valid drivers license;

  • Must take decisions on how to cope with changing environments within the workplace; 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

  • Take initiative in solving environmental problems; 

  • Must be professional in dealing with all stakeholders; 

  • Be proactive and take prompt action

  • Setting high standards of performance for self and others.

  • Assuming responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments or tasks.
